Two Wednesdays, beginning April 1
from 2-4:30pm

Join this two- class session for a unique opportunity to celebrate April Fool’s day by painting from the masters of art history!
Have you ever looked at an old master painting and envisioned it in a more contemporary setting?  Do you think it would be a fun challenge to replicate that image?  Maybe alter the color palette or merge multiple paintings.
Class will begin with ways to jumpstart creative options. Once a master painting is chosen we will work on how to scale the art image proportions, ways to merge your vision with the original master’s work. This class is not intended as a lesson in forgery but who knows what will happen! Come have fun and see if you can fool the viewer with your copy or your reinvented masterpiece!
Selection of images of master artist paintings will be available in class but feel free to bring your favorite.

Supplies required: sketchbook, pencils, ruler, tracing paper, black thin tip marker
Pastel supplies, foam core for backing board
Apron or old shirt

Betsy Payne Cook paints exclusively with pastels, and is honored to be elected as a Juried Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America and to have achieved signature membership status in the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod. Betsy is also acknowledged as a Juried Master Artist at the Cape Cod Art Association. Betsy’s paintings depict her impressions of the landscape and its abundance of colors. She paints both en plein air and in her studio; and conveys her love of the outdoors in each painting. Betsy publishes a newsletter and a blog both titled “Painting In and Out”, sharing her thoughts on her life as an artist.
Betsy’s pastel paintings are represented by Gallery Artrio at 50 Pearl Street in Hyannis. The gallery provides visitors an opportunity to visit the working studio; and invites you to attend the special events that are scheduled throughout the year. Betsy’s work can also be viewed at various local venues including Cape Cod Art Association, Creative Arts Center in Chatham, Falmouth Arts Center, Marion Arts Center and Woodruff Art Gallery in Mashpee Commons.
Betsy participates in local and national juried exhibitions, and has won numerous awards for her pastel paintings. Her painting “Cold Night Out” was awarded Best in Show at the “For Pastels Only on Cape Cod 2013” National Juried Exhibition. Her pastels have also been accepted into both the Pastel Society of America’s National Exhibition and the International Association of Pastel Societies Exhibition. She is a member of several art organizations, is a past vice president Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod and continues to be active with the organization. Betsy began teaching at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in the summer of 2015.
Betsy attended the College of Saint Rose in her hometown of Albany, New York; earning a Bachelor of Science in Art Education and a Masters of Science in Special Education. She taught both art and special education in the tri-city area for several years before moving to Great Britain. Betsy enjoyed the nine years she lived in a small village in Wales; and is fortunate to be able to return to travel and visit her friends and family. Cape Cod was always a family favorite for vacations and she made it her home in 1994.
