“A Musical Tapestry”—Flute and Piano, with Carl Gutowski and Ana Glig
A Musical Tapestry will feature music by female composers, those from under-represented groups, flutist-turned-composers, and living composers. Classical flutist Carl Gutowski has been performing in solo and chamber music settings for 35 years. He is also the Concert Manager of the Howland Chamber Music Circle in Beacon, NY, an all-volunteer organization presenting chamber music concerts by world renowned musicians. In 2019, he gave the world premiere performance of Debra Kaye’s a deafening silence – an elegy at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. (In 2017, he gave the world premiere performance of Fantasy for Flute and Piano, a piece written for him by Ms. Kaye, with pianist Akiko Sasaki.) Ana Glig (aka Gligvashvili) is an award-winning concert pianist praised for her ability to “capture hearts” by Musical America. A recipient of Alfred Cortot’s prize for the best interpretation of romantic music, Glig has performed internationally in Europe and the United States in solo and chamber settings. As an orchestra soloist, Glig has debuted with Georgia and Israeli symphonic orchestras. In the review of her album ‘Reminiscences’ Fanfare Magazine recognized Glig’s playing for its “ever sensitivity” and “ability to finely capture some of Georgia’s haunting, elusive film melodies … as well as anyone on disc.” Don’t miss this afternoon of wonderful classical music. Complimentary refreshments.
