ONLINE-Painting Ocean Waves with Livia Mosanu
- $120.00 - Non-Member

This class meets online on Zoom on Saturdays at 1pm beginning February 6. Your class confirmation email will contain the Zoom class link.
Have you ever wondered how someone produces such realistic ocean waves in their paintings? In this class, you will learn how to capture lifelike ocean waves using oil paints. Photo references will be provided, or you can bring your own. This is the perfect opportunity to practice oil painting techniques such as glazes and impasto while learning how to paint water and foam. We will start the class by talking about the “anatomy” of a wave. We will analyze its structure and gain an understanding of it in 3D. We will then sketch the composition with an emphasis on light, shadows, reflections, and refractions. Next, we will address the underpainting and learn about color mixing and the attributes of color (hue, saturation, value, and temperature). More oil painting techniques will be discussed as we apply the final layer of paint and details that accentuate the illusion of having painted real water and foam on canvas. The class consists of lectures, demonstration videos, and one-on-one critiques via Zoom.

Livia Mosanu is currently working on a series of large scale oil paintings in which she explores the connection between us and our surrounding bodies of water, in particular the Atlantic Ocean. Her work is inspired by unusual and meaningful rhythms that she finds in the water as well as her artistic imagination. These designs or compositions are meant to engage the viewers on a deeper level and allude to the mystery of the water and to the mystery of life itself.
MFA graduate from the New York Academy of Art she is influenced by great masters of marine art such as Turner and Aivazovsky. Her works are exhibited on the East Coast and in many private collections worldwide.
