Saturday, March 6, from 2-5pm

“Cape Cod Solitude” is a collection of photographs by Rachel Jones depicting the solitude many have felt during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The exhibition, which will be presented in the Blue Room from March 3-27, has no admission fee. The Cultural Center will host an open house on Saturday, March 6, from 2-5pm.

Rachel writes, "These photos emerged during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, when one had to be stealthful moving about Cape Cod, avoiding people, allowing for a deeper relationship with nature. Fear was palpable and realistic as the casualties of Covid -19 mounted. With growing uncertainty and change, these places of solitude seemed to understand and offer a soft embrace. Trees sculpted into magnificent shapes by the changing harsh weather, hauntingly beautiful, provided a sense of community. Pier pilings that seemed to remain as monuments of resistance to the tides, reflected solitude and tensile strength. Sand dunes reshaped by wind and storm juxtaposed along an ocean filled with power. Toward the end of this photographic journey, my own body was ravaged by Covid, and, like these trees, pilings, and ocean, I have come to take on the shape of survival."

Visitors are also invited to experience "Faces and Nature, a collection of art in various media by student artist Torriann Matheney, who has been working with Cultural Center arts mentors Jessie Nickerson, Sarah Holl, and Nate Olin for years. In the Vault Gallery through March 27. Also "Finding the Figure," paintings by Paul Schulenburg and the members of his longstanding painting group, in the Constantinidis Great Hall and Saben Board Room galleries through March 27. And “Ocean Compositions,” an exhibit of oil paintings by Livia Mosanu, in the Education Wing through March 20.

All are welcome, but CDC protocols including social distancing and mask usage will be observed. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5pm. For more information, call 508-394-7100.
