Three Saturdays, beginning March 13
from 10am-noon

This class meets online on Zoom on Saturdays at 10am beginning March 13. Your class confirmation email will contain the Zoom class link.

Learn to paint realistic portraits from photo references. These references will be provided in digital format (both photo and Old Master Copy) to use for the duration of the course as you paint in the comfort of your home studio. Alternatively, you may use your own photo reference, as approved by the instructor. We will start the class by drawing and carefully observing proportions, the anatomy of the face and skull, along with light and shadow patterns. Time will be spent drawing and learning the structure of each individual feature (ears, nose, eyes, mouth). We will then transfer this drawing to a board or canvas and paint it using oil paint with traditional oil painting techniques. The class consists of lectures, demonstration videos, and one-on-one critiques via Zoom.

Livia Mosanu is currently working on a series of large scale oil paintings in which she explores the connection between us and our surrounding bodies of water, in particular the Atlantic Ocean. Her work is inspired by unusual and meaningful rhythms that she finds in the water as well as her artistic imagination. These designs or compositions are meant to engage the viewers on a deeper level and allude to the mystery of the water and to the mystery of life itself.

MFA graduate from the New York Academy of Art she is influenced by great masters of marine art such as Turner and Aivazovsky. Her works are exhibited on the East Coast and in many private collections worldwide. She is a finalist in the 8th International Painting Annual published by Manifest Gallery and a recipient of grant awards from the New York Academy of Art and the Art Students League. A native of Bucharest, Romania, she currently resides near Boston, MA.
